A town imagined as ideal
Zhovkva was laid out to a Renaissance "ideal city" plan — and you can still read it: the castle, a market square with the town hall, and a wooden UNESCO church, all within an hour's walk.

About the town
In the late 16th century, hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski laid out Zhovkva to an ideal Renaissance plan — with straight streets converging on a main square, ringed by strong fortifications. Today the town still holds a castle, a market square with a town hall, and several churches among the most valued landmarks of Lviv Oblast.
